This week we introduced the Digital Leaders to their loan Toshiba NB100’s and Schoogle (our new Moodle VLE). The DLs will have a significant impact on the up take of technology at Hamble College and will steer our decisions. Although we are talking with ‘Student Voice,’ I conceive that the DL will act as our on board ICT barometer and student council.
Later that evening we invited the parents to join the meeting and for them to see the netbooks live, in action on the wireless network. As a group the parents were very supportive however our aim is to encourage more regular correspondence from with them. There are a few ideas to facilitate this. All parents had access to email, we could use RSS feeds through the website or through a parents forum on Schoogle. Still to be decided but all contact will be finalised before the netbook is issued.
The final issues of accidental damage and netbook covers are being address. We have been our focus and we are in conversation with a local underwriter, as a gauge I would encourage you to aim for 4% accidental coverage and 1% theft. Finally my colleague has found neoprene covers for under £5, I will let you know.
