Children’s Mental Health Week

5 Feb ’19 #Fail Teaching 0

The shoes that lay outside St George’s Hall Liverpool represent the 226 children who lost their lives to suicide in 2017.

It is a shocking and tragic visual representation to mark the start of Children’s Mental Health Week (4-10 Feb). For a teacher who recently reflected on their lack of awareness of mental health issues experienced by students, I was deeply moved and concerned by this photo. As a parent I could not, for one minute, comprehend what this means.

With 92% of teachers reporting that they are dealing with mental health conditions that go beyond their remit (Place2Be) it is important that these issues are being highlighted, discussed and that teachers get the professional support they need – to support young people.

Which reminds me – I must connect with @Inner_armourUK today.
