It started off as a fun way to introduce touch typing skills to our students but on Friday Typingweb got personal! My Year 10 ICT class concluded their lesson with their usual 5 minutes of touch typing skill development, but this lesson I challenged them to beat Ashleigh’s (one of my mentees) Type Type Revolution score. Well the gloves are off!
What is Type Type Revolution?
Players/typists are required to type the letters as they pass through the timing bar, similar to Guitar Hero, only for typing. If you don’t miss any letters you start a combo and combos mean extra points. Miss timing letters costs you life. Although you can access Type Type Revolution through the Typing Web site, you can also download it as a stand alone application.
Just a small sprinkle of competition and the fun become serious. The downside is that students worried less about their tyoing than they did their score.
I am offering a prize (not sure what yet?) to the highest score from the lower College (Years 7, 8 and 9) and upper College (Years 10 and 11). Perhaps it will run until the end of term.
There are only 3 rules.
You must get a screenshot or printscreen of your score and email that evidence to the chief adjudicator, Mr Still.
Your score can only be achieve during the first five or last five minutes of an ICT lesson, lunchtime, or after College.
Your score must be achieved using touch typing technique.

So, sitting pretty at the top of the leaderboard is Becky with 14,000 and some, I don’t expect that score to be in the top 10 by the end of this half term! Incidently, for those that have asked, the College site was not hacked. Rather there was an unscheduled update on the server that supports the site, our thanks the CTS’s Andy O’Sullivan for the quick response.
