New challenge

new-directionBack in Sept I accepted a new role at The Wellington Academy as Vice Principal, to lead on Teaching and Learning. As I openly use social media in my teaching, I did not updated any of my profile settings or bio’s as I didn’t want to erode any of the trust I was having to work so hard to earn from my newly acquired Y11 sets. I did not share the news with staff either, until recently, it was business as usual.

Yesterday, one of my Y7 students asked where I was going? Going? Of course, I appeared puzzled, if not disorientated and questioned “Why do you ask? Where did you hear that rumour?” the emphasis on rumour.

The sharp young man replied, ‘Cos it says so in the Newsletter.’

Well, I don’t think that I was left with much wriggle room, do you?

So, as I am busily chasing down the last few controlled essay and book to mark before handing groups over. I have been busily preparing for the new role, commuting in the evenings to support the Principal and attend CPD sessions, and today decided to share the information with my Year 11 set.

Sometime over the break I will update my profile settings or bio’s but most of my professional time will be spent getting prepared. The role is going to be hugely challenging; for it is a step up and the Academy is in the midst of two huge mid year projects.

Good question. I did experience six months of carbon copying style reprographics. Yesterday I photocopied in colour.

Thank you. First job after settling in is recruiting the ‘very best HoD and 2nd for English’ he positions somewhat strategically with an enquiring tone…
