This Friday, The Wellington Academy Yr11 ‘Drive to the finishline’ committee met and shared their 31 point plan to support students. The breadth and coverage of this plan is impressive, the committment to it even greater.
In my new role, one area I am contributing to includes Yr11 assemblies. We all know that these ‘almost adults’ are a hard assembly nut to crack, (even harder during the final 20 minutes on Friday afternoon). In the students minds they have perhaps ‘outgrown assemblies’ and yet we know assemblies have a lot to offer, and they have a good deal still to assimilate. Mark Twain sums it up rather well with this personal reflection.

Drive to the finish line – Assemblies
I therefore propose we share and trade our very best assemblies. Assemblies that challenge students to move their own personal mountains, that instill values of resilience and perseverance and of course, who could overlook ‘bouncebackability‘ (Iain Dowie).
