Here we are at the start of day 2 reflecting on day 1. The Learn Live theatre was packed for BYOD, rammed for David Roger’s @davidErogers guerrilla geography and smiling warmly as Charlotte Beckhurst demonstrated how her Y1 primary class had ‘taken to Windows 8 likes ducks to water.’ Her young students inquisitive minds searched for and collated images of majestic African Animals from Bing to their poster projects. Everyone loves a Serengeti setting. These, and all of the presentations will no doubt appear on the UK schools blog at some point in the near future.
Tim Rylands cycled by, Len Daniels (retiring Head of Public Sector) gave me hands on experience the Toshiba Portégé Ultrabook Z930 (in fact I am writing this post on it now) and Anthony Salcito dropped in, as educators fondly explored the Windows 8 stand and Surface area in particular. Anthony Nneke @anthonynneke (School Business Manager) and I chatted over education opportunities afforded by Office 365 for education and the absolute and tangible benefits of extending the classroom into the their homes, courtesy of the power of the browser. Still, the highlight was the shrill celebration of a very happy delegate who received her fantastic prize, a Surface tablet, courtesy of the Microsoft treasure trail. Tim Bush continues to brighten everyone’s day with his effervescent smile and passion all things Microsoft, on the day that Computer Science became a fully fledged subject within the EBac, contributing as a Science. On which note, I really want to learn more from Lee Stott (Technical Evangelist at Microsoft) and Touch Develop, a programming environment that runs on your mobile devices (well any browser).
Time for me to go and bag a load of BETT Show goodies ready for when I get return to The Wellington Academy. I am sure I will have to win my class over, all over again.
