ATL – presentation

The ‘Attitude to Learning’ effort continues. ATL bands are now in SIMs. They will appear on reports going out this week and next and the assemblies start tomorrow.

Some colleagues might say that we are ‘presenting’ the ‘Stars and bars’ ATL bands information after the horse has bolted, in that we choose to give out the first set of stars in quietly, in person, to each student individually explaining what is was for. It is not that we do not value learning, we decided that aesthetic dive was more impactful than delivering the big bomb splash. It is a strategy that seems to be working. Our really ‘good students,’ those in bands 8 and 9 (88) are wearing their stars.

Now – I have not had any parents or carers of band 9 and 8 students contact the school to ask about why they have been recognised, I have managed to either hold a phone conversation or book a significant number of parents and carers meetings with our Community Leaders for those students in bands 3, 2 and 1. The Will Smith video is a fantastic resource in it own right.

If you are using the ATL tool, here is an assembly introducing normal distribution and ATL bands, complete with reading, numeracy and communitication boxes ticked (even PSY Gangnam style). It is a pretty decent stand alone attitudes assembly as well, if you remove the ATL slides.
