More than teachers…

Raising aspirations is easy said than done but I work with some amazingly dedicated staff who go the extra mile. In fact one of my colleagues brought in not one but two inspirational speakers last week and the impact was there for all to see. The two snippets below are adapted from her notes.

First ‘Navy day.’ Year 11 BTEC Public Service pupils were extremely lucky last week to have a visit from the Navy ‘Fit for Life’ team. Put through their paces in a gruelling and challenging practical fitness session the day did not end there. The day also consisted of the pupils experiencing different public services trades and a practical catering session with the Navy ‘Chef’. I watched the pupils prepare and cook chicken korma curry from scratch, including the expert tips of throwing in a Bounty bar for that much needed coconut flavour. I also witnessed first hand the respect our students had for their tutors during the session. The whole day was a perfect eye opener i to the services and the Navy ‘Fit for Life Team’ were fantastic mentors. They inspired the pupils and made a real impact.

On Friday 21st September Hamble Community Sports College was extremely lucky to be joined by one of our former pupils. Olympic Champion. Dani King took time out her of busy schedule to take part in a question and answer session. It was a great opportunity to find out what is need to be an Olympic Champion. The questions that were asked were really well thought out and a great deal of pupils were inspired and could see that Dani has come from the same school and the path she took.

I am very lucky to work with such an fantastic teacher. It is not all about the technology you know.
