Software

  • Open Source Software for learning – Hamble College continues to search and use FLOSS
  • Led the use of OneNote within the ICT dept. Sept 09
  • Learn how to construct and use Databases.
  • Gimp, ALICE, PSM, Audacity. Successful, used during curriculum time Yr 7/8. Autumn/Winter 09 on curriculum. On going. Webware tools / Apps now a focus. Sept 2010.
  • Software audit: Compatibility and licensing check for Win7 completed July 10.
  • New Software 2009: Use of OneNote (yrs 9-11), Comic Life (moderate use) , ABTUTOR (continue to support development), AUP Informant (Very good) and Draw Plus (minimal success). Successful 08-09
  • AB Tutor Classroom Management further deployed Library, Science and Technology. 2009
  • Office 2010 and a range of Live Essentials deployed Sept 2010.
  • Print management control and Papercut deployed.

Printer / Printing

  • Feasibility study (on-going) 08-09
  • Papercut installed and we are looking to extend its application. Successful 08-09 – printing reduced by 22%.
  • Moved whole school printer solution Sept 2010. Review annual, significant cost saving, reduced staff time and improved Service contract.

Grants

Hampshire Grant for ‘Creating a Digital Leader Programme’ (The Digital Leaders are a real asset to the college and continue to contribute to the IT Development at Hamble College). Successful, grant received. Digital Leaders appointed 08 and 09. The focus has moved to leadership in the lower school Years 7-9. Ongoing

IT (Hamble or County) Projects

Initiated Hampshire Network Managers Meeting. Now running and active. Chair and Secretary are Hamble IT staff. Very proud. April 10

Web Services

  • Appointed Moodle Admin – now E-resources Manager.
  • Joomla Website – Investigating new plugins and modules. Now supporting SSP – School Sport Partnership.
  • Finalised on Windows Server (staff expertise). We now update 4 websites annually. School, Skills Centre, Sports Centres, Extended Schools. 09-10
  • Joomla Website – Looking for more staff and student contributions.
  • Parental communication. OCT 08 Digital Policy. RSS feeds and Download section now live from the website; letters, newsletters, calendar and applications. Over 20,000 print pages downloaded to date Sept 10.

VLE procurement and solution 08-09

  • VLE (moodle), VLE and MIS integration (complete) using sims2moodle block. 09-10
  • Implemented the first home study course for students and parents. Successful on two fronts, set up a temporary SCORM class via a free Moodle install. Successful Sept 08. Discontinued.
  • Now includes timetable and achievement points. Successful Sept 09.
  • Student led training. Digital Leaders were active trainers on INSET days.
  • Moving to Zi-Link Parental Engagement. Now host 2 VLEs. School and Skills Centre. Sept 10
  • Worked on the Moodle Moot Committee (attended 2nd Moodle Moot)
  • Designed and led the Moodle Subject Dock project. Submitted to Moodle.

Investigating a 1-2-1 learning solution, netbooks vs laptops vs edas.

  • Laptops for Learning Project starts in Sept 09 witht he Lenovo S102).
  • Moved to S102 – improved product, much servicing.
  • 3rd Year moved to Samsung and new AD/Warranty products. 2010-11

OCR Curriculum Design

OCR curriculum design has moved to OneNote. Wrote the OneNote Worksheets for Unit 1 and Unit 4. Students are able to draw the different Assessment Outcomes within a Unit together, create evidence quicker, in various formats, eg screenclip /audio / video. Successful and ongoing. Nov 08

OneNote – significant impact on attainment 08/09 and 09-10. Learning resources identified as a strength by  External Moderators report. Samples taken for others schools to reference. April 10

CVA significant improved. 09-10

Summary pass rate improved from 23 to 79%

Digital Leaders

Yr 1 – Created the programme. Worked with Media Snackers. Covered Hants IT Conference.

Y2 – Continued the programme – Led the two day Vital funded Digital Leaders Workshop. Two new schools start Digital Leader projects. 2nd Hants IT Conference (worked with Primary Schools). SSAT Achievement Conference.

IT Network

There has been a significant amount of work completed here and I will only note the key changes.

Significant internal infrastructure upgrade – maintenance procedures.

Move to a blade server set Oct 2010.

Introduced Wireless Dec2008, upgraded wireless Aug 2010

College policies, student AUPs, Successful Nov 08. An AUP  is part of every staff / students profile, both on the network,VLE and 1-2-1 and must be accepted at startup. On-going.

Online registration. Successful Oct 08

Sustainable Finance Policy – in progress.

Remote access

To all student accounts, includes both email and folders. Successful Oct 08

Preparing the New Curriculum combining ICT, PSHE and L2L. Now the responsibility of the new head of KS3. Some teething issues but started.

Implement IV procedures for briefs and marking. Successful Sept 08

Bring IT Management and ICT curriculum closer together. Successful – we now share adjacent offices and we have entered into an agreement with CTS to support IT management Oct 08

Electronic Room Booking and Helpdesk Successful Nov 08 – Both projects took longer than they should have done. These are simply installs. Librium is a suitable solution.

College Intranet Page Successful Nov 08

Classroom Management Software Oct 08 AB Tutor £130 per room, excellent.

Refit, restructure the physical learning environment. PCs, curtains, wall displays, chairs. ( PCs, curtains, wall display updates, chairs need ordering / restructure not financially viable.)

Incomplete Projects or Discarded

Introducing a range of learners and staff to blogs – Blogs have been difficult to get staff to take up and keep up. Still a learning tool, the website has taken on part of this role. Blogs for personal CPD have not been successful.

Becta Self Review, still not finished. I am embarrassed to say.

Write Digital Policies.

Digital policies 08 Still not written or shared with parents.

Raise the Staff self assessment levels of teachers and learning assistants and staff skills audit.

Reduce the College paper costs by more than the costs of the LP. – now part of printer feasibility study.

Engage more parents and regular feedback.

 

2009-10

Dec 09 – New IT Manager. I am proud to report was our first internal appointment

Whole school printer solution and printing strategy for Sept 2010. Actioned and in place. Annual review suggests a financial rebate on top of the cost savings.

Joined Moodle Moot Program Committee representing Schools. Fulfilled duties, attended Moot.

School IM  service. Rejected Jan 10

New Video and DVD service trialled and established. July 2010

Investigating Terminal Services. Feasibility study.  Rejected.

Learn the basics of PHP programming. No progress, although I do have a book. I do not think I will be progressing with this aspiration.

Over haul of IT infrastructure

  • Major Virtualisation undertaken and blade infrastructure established.
  • Secure backup established with redundancy.
  • Increased storage.
  • New domains created
