Space Dive

You can not afford to miss this programme.  Space Dive – a one-off documentary, Space Dive tells the behind-the-scenes story of Felix Baumgartner’s historic, record-breaking freefall from the edge of space to Earth.

It is the entire STEM curriculum shrink wrapped into 90 mins. Science, Technology, Engineering and enough purposeful Maths to sink an average sized school. And still, it is more than that. It is one of the best leadership case studies I have watched, without it being about leadership. Team agendas pulling in different direction, risk management, budgets looming, personalities faltering, aliases, demoted and reappointed leaders…

I know the story quote well know; I read around the event , I watched a handful of Felix Baumgartner’s interviews, shared links and resources created assembly resources with a handful of Felix Baumgartner’s quotations (the images are just ore inspiring) . But, I waited two weeks to watch the documentary, so that I could enjoy watching it with a very dear friend and aspiring school leader. The documentary showcases teamwork, project management and decision making but it is perhaps the moral purpose of keeping a colleague alive that overrides all the bespoke engineering and technology challenges, adjudicating risk versus outcome and the psychology and singularity of one man’s personal effort to break the sound barrier.

About 10 minutes into the documentary the somewhat surly Joe Kittinger recognises the group are getting bogged down in the weeds and in one short interjection moves the team on.

His contribution to the documentary alone, makes it worth watching.
