Anytime Anywhere Learning for All

After a fantastic educator meeting, where forward thinking and innovative teachers shared and discussed their ‘learning projects.’ And I purposefully say learning and not technology or innovation projects as without question the emphasis, in every all conversation, was about how the students engaged, developed and benefitted from the experience.

There were a number of significant contributions but I really liked David’s XBOX quizzing project. A simple four team quizzing experience played with wireless controllers. I especially liked the use of ‘vibrate’ to communicate and feedback to teams and the use of scaled points scoring pending response times. Fast finger first quizzing certainly engaged the crowd and this secretly competitive group of teachers. Finally, Lastly, @davidErogers – David Rogers always leaves me with food for thought. Geographers – this man has a passion for his subject only other passionate geographers would fully appreciate.

The morning started with an open forum and then a informative and factual keynotes from Ian Livingstone. A stroll down gaming memory lane quickly became a fast paced power walk through the facts and figures and scope of the games industry. $50 billion a year revenue (of which the UK contributes $2 million) makes it the biggest entertainment medium, bigger than books, films and music.

Now the games industry and all the media industries are crying out for talent. A convergence or art and science rather than a separation. Teamwork is fundamental. With computer science as an optional core subject seen as essential opportunity.
